
Art Chang is the founder and CEO of Tipping Point Partners, an
angel-stage venture capital firm. Tipping Point Partners is an active
partner with the founders of companies that enable the relationship
between audiences and their passions, via the Internet and mobile.
Tipping Point Partners advises, invests in, and serves in management
roles for startup companies and new divisions of established
companies. Tipping Point Partners makes connections to business
partners and capital and helps facilitate expansion of U.S. Internet
and mobile companies in Asia. Current portfolio companies include
Haystack Media, a large ad-supported online network for music widgets;
Mobile Commons, a mobile information services company that allows
customers to design, manage and launch SMS-based marketing,
information, and interactive game applications; I Do Now I Don't, a
community/auction site for the 53% of Americans whose marriages have
ended; PlaySpan, a communications and P2P trading platform for
MMORPGs; Casebook, an enterprise social application for social
services agencies; and 99Vine, a real estate social network built
around a comprehensive listings service. Art also currently serves
as the CEO of haystack.com.
Art's career prior to Tipping Point Partners has been focused on the
B2B side of consumer-facing industries. Art was a founder or manager
in seven start-ups, including hooloo.com, a Chinese music e-commerce
site for Chinese-speaking consumers, sold in 2000; and Splendid
Television, the boutique television program finance and distribution
company behind shows like BBC/A&E's Victoria & Albert and TNT's James
Dean. Art has 10 years of experience in venture capital, where he
worked on companies that included the Telemedia Accelerator, an
incubator for interactive television; Decentrix, a web-based
publishing services company; concert.tv, the live music television
channel; CRC Jianian, the privatized distribution arm of the Chinese
national music agency; IGA Worldwide, the in-game advertising
company; and datasynapse, the grid computing company. Years ago, Art
was a professionally trained violinist and ended his early architecture career at I.M. Pei's firm. Art has also had significant professional roles in real estate development, government, design and non-profit management. Art serves on the Board of the Brooklyn Public Library and is an active member of Yale's Alumni Admissions Committee.
