Angel Investor

Hugh Cullman is an experienced angel and institutional investor that for seven years has funded worthy startups in and around the New York Metropolitan region. In 2000, Hugh joined Spencer Trask to start up a special unit to handle institutional venture investments. His clients during that time included Intel Capital and Corning Innovation Ventures. Hugh joined Greenhill SAVP in early 2004, which focused on tech enabled services in the New York region, and was responsible for sourcing one of the firms more successful investments, Critical Mention. In early 2007, Hugh left Greenhill SAVP to focus on angel investing and to explore starting his own firm. His new people centric venture firm is about to be launched here in New York and will concentrate on industries that have strong connections to the Greater Metro NY community (advertising, finance, broadcasting etc.). Hugh is interested in talking to experienced entrepreneurs at any stage, and works with new entrepreneurs when they have their initial customers. In addition to Critical Mention, recent investments have included Email Data Source and Viddler. Hugh plans on remaining an active angel investor, and belongs to a number of angel investment groups, including New York Angels and Cherrystone Angels.

Before becoming involved in venture investing, Hugh worked for 12 years at Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank, where he revised banking process and work flow, evaluated new systems and workflows, and purchased and installed new systems. Hugh graduated from Stanford University with a BA in economics and has an MBA from Harvard University.
